Upon the departure of Father Villandre in 1921, Rev. Louis A. Dequoy arrived
in October, and immediately set about providing for a parish school. His plans
were approved in January, 1923; and work began that spring.
In the fall, 211 pupils entered the five existing grades, which were taught by
the Sisters of the Holy Union of the Sacred Hearts, who lived in a convent
adjacent to the school. A new grade was added each year until 1926, when the
first class was graduated.
Meanwhile, Father Dequoty also reorganized a school orchestra, which had been started
in 1910, and founded a library.
With the school established, the second pastor concentrated on the upper church;
and in 1923 construction began on the edifice. In Jun, 1929, the church was
completed for the 490 families which comprised the parish.
Before his death in April of 1935, Father Dequoy also dedicated the property of
Conseil Duvernay and founded the Friends of the Graduates of Sacred Heart School.
