History of our Church
The third pastor, Rev. Victor Masse, came to North Attleboro on May 7, 1935, and
two years later organized a parish Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The following
year, recognizing the need for the study of French in the parish, he designated
the school as the center of French studies under the direction of the sisters
there.
After serving in North Attleboro for four years, Father Masse was named pastor of St.
Anthony's New Bedford; and Rev. Alfred J. E Bonneau, a former curate, replaced
him.
During his pastorate, Father Bonneau did a great deal of work for those in the
armed services. He also started a vocation club called the Junior League for
students in the eighth grade.
Rev. Joseph S. Larue became the next pastor January 9, 1947. In September of
1953, a drive was inaugurated for a new convent, which would be situated on
land pruchased on Church Street. This convent was completed and dedicated in
November, 1956.
Also in 1953, Father Larue arranged for high school classes in Christian Doctrine
to be taught by the sisters of the school.
After along illness, Father Larue died on June 9, 1966, at the age of 80. During
his years at Sacrd Heart, he was responsible for the establishment of units of Girl Scouts
and Boy Scouts as well as the union of the women's society under the N.C.C.W.
