Parish
Pastoral Council
As discussed last week, we are in the process of refashioning our
Parish Pastoral Council. The following notes are offered to prepare
the parish for council membership nominations, which will take
place on the weekend of February 8-9.
What: The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is an advisory group to
the pastor. The PPC concerns itself with a three-fold work: study,
reflection, and recommendation. This task is called pastoral
planning.
Who: Members of the parish, after prayerful discernment, are
invited to submit their names for nomination on the PPC. To work
effectively, we seek persons who possess some of the following
gifts and talents: good communication skills, organization skills,
good listener, ability to work on a team, experience in long-range
planning and strategic planning, the ability to vision into the
future. In our selection of members, we will be looking for a
cross-range of age, gender, and experience, reflecting the make-up
of our parish community.
When: At this time, it is envisioned for the PPC to meet at least 4
times a year, with smaller working committee meetings at other
times as needed. For continuity, we seek a three-year commitment
from members.
How: On the weekend of February 8-9, during our worship, you
will be invited to nominate members of the parish for this new
parish pastoral council. Those nominated will be asked, by letter,
if they wish to have their name considered for selection. These
names will then be brought to the parish staff who, in the context
of prayer and reflection, will make the selection of members for
the new council. (In the future, the membership of the parish
pastoral council will make the selection of members from those
nominated by the parish.)
To prepare for the February 8-9 nominations, please prayerfully
consider members of the parish whose gifts and talents could be
utilized for our new parish pastoral council.
